Work Packages

The framework of AltLife’s collaborative work is provided by three interconnected lines of analysis (WP)

Axe 1
AltLife Post-Development & Place-Based Collaborative Research
(WP2) Mapping material and spatial dynamics

We analyse how collectives establish themselves through their material functioning, at the domestic level (home) and at the territorial level (near and far). Therefore, we deal with spatial arrangement and architecture, focusing on the material and built dimensions of these collectives' dwellings. At the same time, we also address the associated practices: the 'metabolism' of land use, food, water, energy, etc.

Axe 2
AltLife Post-Development & Place-Based Collaborative Research
(WP3) Analyzing social & institutional transformation

We try to understand the socio-institutional transformations taking place within collectives over time and as they interact with a variety of outside actors. We seek to understand the collectives’ internal organisational structure and their external relationships with actors at regional, national and international levels, as well as the networks in which they are involved. We focus on collectives’ relationship with the market economy - from rejection to controlled engagement - and on the possible that their various attitudes bring about.

Axe 3
AltLife Post-Development & Place-Based Collaborative Research
(WP4) Exploring (cosmo) political imaginaries and subjectivities in motion

We shed light on the worldviews, beliefs and subjectivities conveyed within the collectifs. This involves understanding these cosmovisions’ influence on people’s way of life on a daily basis and their impact on their interactions with others, both human and other-than-human. Furthermore, we wish to analyse how these worldviews are mobilised and/or reconfigured, whether as symbols of belonging and/or tools for claims, and at different levels.
